First, Eat All the Lawyers

First, Eat All the Lawyers, by Torie Bosch is an article that talks about the current zombie craze. She refers to the show The Walking Dead as an example, which is one of my favorite shows so I can relate to the article. Bosch explains how the white collar employees would not survive in a zombie apocalypse. They lack hands on skills needed to survive. She explains how blue collar employees would be the survivors if this apocalypse were to occur due to their skills in auto maintenance, farming, plumbing, and electrical work. Bosch takes the article for a turn when she explains that the zombie apocalypse obsession represents America's falling economy. I didn't understand this analysis at all. To me it was very unclear; I wish she would have explained this more. I do agree however, that blue collar workers would be better survivors due to their skills. Overall, I felt this was an interesting article but irrelevant.

Homeless on Campus

Homeless on Campus by Eleanor J. Bader is an article covering the problem of students who come from poverty and continue the struggle through college. These students are unable to afford housing while going through college.  An example would be the story of Aesha, a single mother who fled from her abusive boyfriend and was sent to live in a shelter; she was forced to travel almost 8 hours a day from the shelter to child care for her son, then to school and back home using public transportation. Thankfully, her professors were understanding and lenient on absences. LeTendre Education Fund for Homeless Children, a scholarship program administered by the National Association for the Education of the Homeless Children and Youth is helping 40 students a year with funds for housing. This is not enough; Universities need to provide students with affordable housing and health care to help their students succeed. This would help put an end to homeless students and allow them to focus on their studies and maintaining a degree to pull them out of poverty.

Driving Music

This is a good playlist because it is calming upbeat music for a long drive. These are currently my favorite songs. Everything Has Changed and Give Me Love are sung by my favorite artist, Ed Sheeran.  Royals by Lorde is a new song I recently heard on the radio and I like it because it has a different style than most of the music I listen to. Wrecking ball by Miley Cyrus is also a new song that my one year old daughter and I love to listen to! Get Your Shine On by Florida Georgia Line is an upbeat country song which adds music variety to the playlist.

Syria

Syria is only a 67 year old country with more problems than we could even dream of. They are currently in a Civil War involving Israel. The U.S. is deciding on wether they should intervene or not. It all started when Syrian protestors decided to protest against their ruler, Assad. Syrians’ were not happy with how their country was being run so they were protesting against it. The government was furious about the protest and began torturing, kidnapping and opening fire on the protestors and civilians, including women and children. The government began using military force against their people destroying neighborhoods and whole towns. This is a war crime which means the U.S. does have a right to intervene. In my opinion, this is horrible. I do not like the fact that they are killing and torturing children but we should mind our own business. We have enough to worry about with our own country and do not need to be involved in another countries issues. If we do decide to send our troops into Syria, Russia and China will back up Syria. This insinuates that if we do strike against the Syrian government, China and Russia will strike against us. We do not need to waste our countries money and put our soldiers in danger for a war that can not be won. Especially with China and Russia, two world powers, planning to fight against us. This is some information and my opinions on this current event.

Chipotle Review

I decided to research my favorite restaurant, Chipotle. Chipotle is one of the healthiest fast food restaurants there is which I love, because I feel good taking my family here. The first time I went to  Chipotle I was skeptical because this variety of food was new to me, but I ended up loving it! Their food has a fresh, spicy yet sweet flavor which is an excellent combination. Unlike other Mexican restaurants including Pepe’s or La Cafe, Chipotle has a more Americanized flavor, which in my opinion, tastes better. I chose to review the Frankfort, IL location at 11129 W Lincoln Highway, Frankfort, IL 60423.

History

Chipotle is a fast food style Mexican restaurant which uses organic raw ingredients. Chipotle was founded by Steve Ells. They first started in 1993 at a former Dolly Madison ice cream location, and in 1995 opened their second and third locations. In 1996 they opened five more restaurants in the Denver, Colorado area. In 1999 Chipotle expanded their restaurants to Minnesota and Ohio. In 2000 Chipotle started serving naturally raised pork and followed by doing the same with chicken in 2002 and beef in 2007. They also stopped the use of sour cream and cheese with rBGH in the same year. In 2010 they changed 40% of their black beans to organic. Chipotle has grown quite popular over the recent years, the average Chipotle restaurant makes nine million dollars per year and they have over 900 restaurants, so they are doing very well for themselves.

Appearance

Chipotle restaurants have a sleek modern style with the use of medals and earthy tones. This gives the restaurant a cool, clean feeling. The employees are uniformed in black tee-shirts, black pants, black aprons, and black hats. They have a bar style restaurant where the food is prepared in front of you, similar to subway. I give the appearance 9 out of 10 because of its unique style.

Cleanliness

Chipotle has a very clean atmosphere. They use 100% recycled napkins, which tells you a little something on their feelings of the environment. The employees wear gloves, hats, and aprons. The garbage cans are never over flowing, the area where the food is prepared is always clean and separated by its own bowl. The tables were wiped as soon as customers left and the floors were swept. I would rate Chipotle 10 out of 10 on cleanliness.

Service

The employees in Chipotle were very friendly and out going. The line moves very fast and they are in an assembly line behind the counter which makes everything move faster. They were all dressed in clean, back uniforms which included hats to make sure no stray hairs get into the food. Chipotle employees also wear gloves, which some fast food companies do not enforce, but chipotle defiantly does, which makes me feel a lot better. I would rate the service a 8 out of 10 just because you do have to get your own drinks and clean up your table afterwards.

Food

The food at Chipotle was terrific for being a "fast food restaurant." You can tell that the food is real and natural. Their menu allows u to choose either a burrito bowl, which is a burrito without the tortilla, a burrito, a salad, crispy tacos, or hard tacos. You then chose weather you want cilantro-lime white or brown rice, black or pinto beans, adobo-marinated and grilled steak or chicken, braised carnitas or barbacoa, hot sauce, mild salsa, corn salsa, sour cream, cheese, lettuce and guacamole, I got a burrito bowl with cilantro-lime brown rice, adobo-marinated chicken, black beans, corn salsa, cheese, and sour cream. It was delicious! It has a slightly spicy fresh taste. You also have the option of getting a side of their homemade lime flavored tortilla chips and your choice of salsa for only an extra $1.25. I would give the food a 10 out of 10! They serve a variety of drinks including coke products, chocolate milk, white milk, juices, margaritas, corona beer, and miller lite beer. The average price of one meal at Chipotle runs at about $6.50, which seems like a pretty low price for a substantial portion of organic food.

Chipotle was truly one of the best fast food restaurants I have eaten at, its clean, the people are friendly and the food is delicious but still nutritious. I would defiantly recommend this restaurant for people who enjoy healthy, delicious food! There is something for everyone there.
